Why to forgive others? But don’t forget to forgive yourself!

People used to tell me that it’s very difficult to forget and forgive people who have hurt them badly. But it’s not always necessary to forgive and forget. What’s truly important is releasing those painful and hurtful emotions from your mind. If you don’t, you’ll likely continue experiencing problems like stress, anxiety, depression, and many other serious health issues.

Moreover, research has shown that holding onto resentment can have detrimental effects on our physical health, contributing to issues such as high blood pressure, a weakened immune system, and cardiovascular problems.

We all love rose flowers, don’t we? But have you noticed that rose flowers are surrounded by thorns? Thorns serve as protection for these roses. Nature has ingeniously designed roses in such a way that their plants are equipped with thorns, which act as a shield, deterring potential threats and predators from harming the delicate flowers.

Similarly, in our lives, we are often blessed with roses—our best friends, supporters, or family members—who provide us with encouragement, motivation, and positive experiences. At the same time, we are also surrounded by thorns—individuals who hurt us, demotivate us, criticize us, and cause us emotional wounds.

Yet, upon reflection, you may realize that both the roses and the thorns play significant roles in shaping who we are. The challenges and difficulties presented by the thorns serve as valuable lessons in your life and opportunities for growth. They teach us resilience, perseverance, and the importance of setting boundaries. They play a very significant role in molding you and helping you to become who you are today. We gain insight into who we truly are and what we value in life.

Sometimes, we also become thorns in someone else’s life and roses in someone else’s. That’s the way the world is designed—to live a balanced life.

It was very difficult for me to forgive others who hurt me badly, but when I discovered myself, I became grateful for those thorns in my life that truly shaped who I am today. Sometimes, in my gratitude journal, I specifically thank all those thorns for the valuable lessons they’ve taught me.
